Frankly Speaking

A Prologue: The Dream

The Dream–September 12, 2003

I was in a large white room without walls or doors. A strong wind had come down from heaven and caught a woman. The woman was nude. The wind threw her into a tall brown oak tree with a thick trunk and no leaves. The woman was tangled in the limbs of the tree, and the tree forced her to speak to me. I stood at the base of the tree looking up at her. As the woman spoke, I knew it was important to write down what she said.

She grudgingly told me about the destruction that would be wrought by a tornado 11 feet wide. In the dream this seemed huge. She also said that just when I thought the tornado was over, there would be more. After this, the tree let her go and she fell. She landed at the base of another tree–this one ugly, small, black and twisted. There was a dark, murky puddle at its base.

She landed face first in the puddle, yet she never lifted herself out of the filthy water. She called out, “Satan! Satan!” as if she expected him to rescue her. The tree reached out with dark, twisted, skinny limbs and grabbed her shoulders. It dragged and twisted her body into itself, consuming her. I watched as the woman was stretched and twisted until she looked like white taffy being incorporated into the black tree. Throughout all this she argued belligerently with the tree and demanded it let her go. The tree mocked her until it finished consuming her.
