Chapter 2: The Second Dream

February 4, 2005

In this dream my husband, children and I were taking a drive in the family minivan. My husband was driving, and my then 15-year-old son sat in the front passenger seat. I was sitting in the middle, and my other three children were sitting in the back. Outside I could see fields of corn on either side of us–tall, bright green stalks with ripe, golden corn peaking out of the husks. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day.

Suddenly to my left I saw a huge, white tornado. It wasn’t more than 2 miles ahead of us. I did a double take–I couldn’t believe there was a tornado in the middle of this sunny, beautiful day! But as I watched, the tornado demolished a barn; corn stalks were being catapulted everywhere.

I was immediately terrified; however, my husband and kids weren’t at all frightened. Derwin just kept driving. It was almost as if none of them were aware of the huge tornado in our path. Filled with panic, I urged Derwin to hurry and get us to our home just a few miles ahead. But the tornado was spinning wildly toward us, destroying everything in its path. Derwin didn’t speed up or slow down; he just kept driving, oblivious to the danger.

I began praying for the Lord to help us get home safely, for Him to turn the tornado around and send it away, but it kept coming. As I watched, the tornado overtook us. I looked up and was able to see the hollow center of the tornado through the ceiling of the van. I squeezed my eyes shut. We were going to die; there was no way around it.

Though I was still afraid, I felt a strange calm as the minivan was lifted into the air, shaking and spinning. I thanked God for my life, for all He’d given me and all He’d done, for my children, and for the opportunity to live on this earth.

But after a few moments, I realized the van wasn’t shaking anymore. I opened my eyes and was surprised to see that we were driving again. Everyone around me was calm, as if nothing had happened at all. The sun was still shining. The tornado was gone.

“What happened?” I asked, stunned.

“Oh, the tornado just spun us around,” my husband said, and my son agreed. I looked out the window and realized we were driving on the same road, but in the opposite direction. The tornado had literally turned us around 180 degrees, then left.
